gardens of ninfa, italy.

Claude Monet, ancient ruins, one of the most romantic gardens in the world, and a short train ride from Rome.

The Gardens of Ninfa, or Giardino di Ninfa, are built over the Medieval City of Ninfa. Ninfa, or Nymph, stems from ancient Roman times. There is a temple located in the garden, which is dedicated to the goddess of spring water- Naiad Nymphs. The city of Ninfa was destroyed in the 14th century. However, some years later, the Caetani family took ownership in 1298 and decided to take the ruins and create a garden over them.

Now standing today lies one of the most beautiful gardens in the world, during the springtime. A garden that embodies trees from all over the world. A garden that contains ancient ruins dating back to Medieval times. A garden so beautiful, that Claude Monet traveled to these ruins to get inspiration for his many famous works.

You can only visit these gardens through a tour guide, with paid entry. While not recommended during seasons other than Spring, the tour certainly gives incredible, ‘you wouldn’t have known’ information for history lovers.

While you must stay within the lines of the tour, following slowly behind your guide, you are allowed some time to explore the area’s solo. Take advantage of this time to snap photos of the less populated areas, smell the fresh air and see if you will become inspired, as well.

I had yet to find a place not breathtakingly beautiful, in the beautiful country of Italy. Whether you go to these stunning gardens during the Spring, Summer or Fall, I am sure you will enjoy yourself and the scenery.

Say yes to random trips! Say yes to going to places you haven’t researched!

Who knows, you may end up at the Gardens of Ninfa, in a tiny town in Italy, inspired just as Claude Monet once was.
