assisi, italy.

This little town in the beautiful Umbria region of Italy will always hold a very, very special place in my heart. It was the very first town I visited, with my friend whom I met while in Rome. We took the 2hr Trenitalia train from Roma Termini to the Assisi station. We left the station and headed towards the mountain where the town rested.

We hiked nearly ten miles from the stop through little farmhouses. Upwards towards the preset path that led to the city full of stone. Watching as the one bus that operates the town passed by us, drenched in sweat. Once we finally reached the bottom of the town, we sat down to finalize our plans for the day.

The town of Assisi is the birthplace of Saint Francis and the home of the Basilica of St. Francis. A Basilica, like none I had ever seen before. (You’re not allowed to take photos in the basilica, I may have snuck a few though). Aside from the main basilica, there are not too many attractions. However, the sites alone from the top of this historical town are worth the trip alone.

This town will make you feel grateful. You feel grateful that you have legs that can walk up steep hills, to visit such beautiful towns. You feel grateful that you have eyes to see such breathtaking sights. You feel thankful to be passionate, free, to be in another place, and to be alive.

I will let the photos speak for the city, just know- if this town is not on your list, you may want to revisit those Italian plans!

leave me a note!
